About Me
It all started with an Illustrator's Annual sitting on a library shelf. Flipping through the work I realized for the first time what I wanted in my life. Grad school followed and quickly a job in the commercial art world of Detroit. Cars and more cars. Ten years of this was enough. Off to teaching. Fifteen years of teaching and freelancing has brought me to this point in my career. I love to solve problems. I love the creative process. I am comfortable with all types of mediums with sports photography a passion. Living in the mid—specifically in southern Illinois—where it is hot and muggy in the summer—perfect weather for cycling.

Drawing has always been a part of my life. My shelves in my studio are filled with sketchbooks of all types, sizes and conditions. Lately they have all been hand made. The last sketch book I purchased was in the fall of 2001. Although I will not give up the practice of filling pages of a paper-based sketchbook I have added to my practice of drawing the iPad.
This simple tool allows for a greater freedom in drawing with color available at all times. No longer do I need to carry with me water, brushes, and pigments. I have almost an infinte number of colors to work with on the iPad.
I have two favorite drawing tools on the iPad. The first is Sketchbook Pro. A well designed and organized drawing program with a wide variety of brushes and drawing tools.
The second drawing tool I love to use is Adobe Ideas. A much simpler drawing tool with basically one drawing tool. The reduction to one tool and one shape forces you to search for creative ways to adjust the tool to get more out of it. This tool lends itself to all kinds of drawing but I find myself working with pattern a great deal with this tool.
I am looking forward to a trip to Turkey and Greece this coming fall where I will be using my iPad daily for drawing. It will be interesting to see how I balance the use of paper and pad and which will become the favored medium for this trip. Look for more drawings later in the year.
